Day 2: Saturday, June 21
With the guns forward the Confederate cavalry moves to the field to engage
Union forces. Capt. Steve Glaza, left, leads the cavalry. In the center is
Col. R. Roy Robinson leading the Kentucky Cavalry Brigade.
Beside Col. Robinson is brigade bugler Brett Bellamy, who is serving as
overall Confederate cavalry bugler for the battle. The men of the Kentucky
Cavalry Brigade, the 6th Kentucky Cavalry, and other units come up behind.

Day 2: Saturday, June 21
While the cavalry is fast and dashing, the infantry was always the
"hammer" of force in the Civil War. Here the Confederate foot troops march
toward battle.

close examination of the photo (right click to open it separately to see
the larger view) shows that right turn onto the field by the leading edge
of the column (right side of picture) as the rest of the column comes up
from the forest.

come forward and open the battle with a volley of cannon fire.

Day 2 Saturday, June 21
After their opening round with the cannons the Federals send forward a
rather unusual, if not bold, unit of men to confront the Confederates
massing on the field. Here we see a small wagon full of Federal soldiers
come running out, followed by two mounted cavalrymen. The mounted men,
though wearing Union blue, are actually from the Kentucky Cavalry
Brigade. On the horse to the right is David Moore II, and on the
horse to the left is Col. Robinson's son.
